Waterways of North Wales & Cheshire at Alvaston

Alvaston Hall became a social hub for the wealthy people of Nantwich when it was built in 1896. More than 120 years later, it’s still immensely popular for the huge variety of activities and entertainment offered in its just for adults hotel.

Day 1 We travel to our hotel.

Day 2 This morning we visit Anderton for a cruise along the River Weaver. Although the lift is currently un-operational we start the cruise from the bottom of the lift looking up at the glorious ancient monument from a unique perspective. We then continue along the River Weaver to Northwich, where we will take in the 2 historic swing bridges before returning back to Anderton. On then to the pleasant market town of Nantwich, before returning back to our hotel via the lovely lakes of Ellsmere.

Day 3 A morning visit to Chester. Visit the half-timbered galleried shops in The Rows, walk the red sandstone city walls, visit the cathedral or just relax in one of the many teashops. We return to our hotel early afternoon to take part in the many activities or to enjoy the facilities on offer.

Day 4 A leisurely drive travelling over the spectacular Horseshoe Pass to Llangollen. Enjoy time at leisure here before we join a canal cruise on a brightly coloured narrowboat, where you will sail across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, or 'Stream in the Sky', then through the beautiful Vale of Llangollen. An interesting commentary gives visitors an insight into the history of the area and other canals in the UK.

Day 5 Homeward bound.
