Rochester Sweep Festival

Chimney Sweeps typically only had one day off during the year and this was May Day so, as you can imagine, it was the time when they really wanted to have some fun! They did this by merging several folk traditions and parading through the streets, dancing and singing with the Jack in the Green. Dubbed ‘the biggest folklore festival of its type in the UK’. Medway’s Rochester Sweeps Festival is always jam-packed with a dazzling array of traditional music, dancing and entertainment and as you’d expect, there’s no shortage of traditional Morris dancers to keep you smiling.
