Skip to content We travel to the peaceful resort of Bexhill-on-Sea, where its vintage shops, quirky places for art and music and independent cafes, defy traditional seaside stereotypes. Following time here, we travel on to the historic town of Battle. Named after the Battle of Hastings, the most famous conflict on English soil, this compact market town plays host to a tranquil medieval abbey and surrounding ancient woodlands. Behind the abbey, once a bloody battlefield, is ruins of the grand abbey built by William the Conqueror as a penance for the bloodshed. Youll also find tranquil gardens, historic buildings and dont miss a visit to St Marys Parish Church to see the Battle Tapestry, a three metre depiction of the towns history.
